Moderate Level Treks

Pindari Glacier

Are either fairly easy medium-duration walks or harder, shorter walks. No experience is necessary, but good health and reasonable fitness are important. Some walking at higher altitude and occasional longer/harder days may be involved, but general underfoot conditions will be fair. A walking day is normally five to seven hours and daily ascents will likely be around 500m to 800m, perhaps with the odd day ascending around 900m to 1000m.

Manali – Kinnaur over Pin Parvati Pass

Day 02 : Reaching Chandigarh. Hotel stay. Do visit ROCK GARDEN,ROSE GARDEN and SUKHNA LAKE.

Day 03: Travel to MANIKARAN via KULLY VALLEY

Day 04: Manikaran-Pulga: Walking Time 3-4 hrs.> Manikaran at 1700m is very popular religious place where people of all faiths comes to wish. Pulga 2100m is very famous among trekkers but mostly returns back. Small tea stalls and hotels are settled in apple orchards and are usually crowded with foreigners.

Day 05: Pulga-Kheer Ganga: Walking Time 4-5 hrs.> Trail gradually ascends to Kheer Ganga which is a scenic place and now supported by a ” shelter” which is usually heavily crowded by foreigners. Kheer Ganga2850m is a open meadow.

Day 06: Kheer Ganga-Bhojtunda: Walking Time 5 hrs.> Steay ascend to the gorge. Valley then widens and trail crosses several beautiful pasturs supporting many types of wildflowers. There are some Gujjar/Gaddi shepherd emcampments and this will be last human settlement you will be watching. Bhojtunda is 3200m high pastur.

Day 07: Bhojtunda-Thakur Khan: Walkgint Time 4-5 hrs.> Crossing through rocks and dense vegitation. You will see remains of Indian Army helicopter which crashes in high winds when trying to land-just toppled due to velocity of wind. Thakur Khan 3400m is above the cliffs.

Day 08: Thakur Khan-Mantakal Lake: Walking Time 6-7 hrs.> You will be lucky if you could see any shepherd encampment. There is a natural bridge and is known as Pandu Bridge.Trail makes some ups and downs and then goes through flowered meadows. To reach Mantakal Lake 4070m, it is 200m of steep ascending over boulders which may not be tough for people who had some expereince but first timer may find learning lessons.

Day 09: Manatak Lake-High Camp: Walking Time 7 hrs.> Crossing terminal moraine and walking by cairns through boulders is high altitude ritual and expereinced trekkers will find it easy and first timers will be able to learn how to find route among boulders and scree of terminal moraine. In bigger climbing expeditions-even expereinced climbers had been seen loosing their ‘way through’. So, this type of walking in high altitude is must to learn for people who love Himalayan trekks.

Day 10: High Camp-Pin Parvati Pass-Pin valley: Walking Time 5 hrs.> From high camp, steep 300m climb to a snoefield and then a small col is way to cross this legendary pass.Pin Parvati Pass 4810m is marked by cairns and prayer flags. Descending is gradual.

Day 11 : Pin valley-Mud: Walking Time 8hrs.> Gradual desceding towards valley floor to village Mud 3600m.

Day 12 : Mud-Sangam: Walking Time 4-5 hrs.> A gradual walk though Spiti valley which is a landscape of it’s own type. Sangam is a road head and you can catch bus for manali or Shimla.

Day 13 : Traveling To Recong Peo-hotel stay.

Day 14: Travel back to SHIMLA

Day 15: Travel back to DELHI

Shorter Options in Parvati Valley:

Camping: Manikaran is road head and as we mentioned Pulga is 2-3 hrs. walking distance and is ideal place for camping with families /friends.Old and small kids can easily walk on jeepable road which is well marked with tea stalls en route. is regularly using this region for summer camps and as well as family camping.

Trekking: If not for Pin Parvati pass-one can easily reach to Kheer Ganga and Mantalai beyond.


Kaza to Manikaran over Pin Parvati Pass

Pin Parvati PassA tough and challenging option which should be only taken by trekkers, explorers and climbers who are experienced about high altitude and remote trekking in mountain ranges.

Day 1: Takeover from AIRPORT – Most international flights lands in night- we provide takeover from airport and shift to hotel. Take rest. If you are coming from DOMESTIC FLIGHT- you can reach CHANDIGARH same day.

Day 2: Reaching CHANDIGARH – In moderate traffic of DELHI- it can take 5-6 hrs in reaching CHANDIGARH. Chandigarh is modern and planned city of INDIA. Do have a visit in evening at internationally famous ROCK GARDEN,ROSE GARDEN and SUKHNA LAKE.

Day 3: Reaching RECONG PEO- We start travel after breakfast and it is a long traveling day to reach RECONG PEO.

Day 4: Rest Day – We suggest you to take local walking in mountain as this willhelp you in getting acclimitized to mountain air.

Day 5: Kaza-Sagnam
Sagnam is situated on the right bank of river Pin. One has to experience a ride on a JHOOLA bridge to reach the village. This is a single wire suspension bridge which is crossed sitting in a sling and sliding on the wire with the help of an Ibex horn. World famous breed of horses called Chaumurti can be seen in this valley.

Day 6: Sagnam-Mud, 11 kms
Mud is the last village in the valley. Trekkers will like to see Sword dance performed by wandering lamas called Buzhen.

Day 7: Mud-Glacier camp, 14 kms
Trek to the campsite by the side of Pin river is difficult.

Day 8 Glacier camp-Mantalai, 14 kms
Trek on the glacier for more than 4 hours to reach the top of the Pin Parbati pass, alti 16500 feet. From the pass very beautiful view of both the valleys can be had. Britishers had tried to connect both the valleys by road but in vain.

Day 9: Mantalai-Thach, 13 kms
Trek down stream along the left bank of Parbati river. Thach is a wide pasture. Good camping ground.

Day 10: Thach-Khirganga, 11 kms
Go downstream along the left bank to reach Khirganga hot water springs, alti 3354m. Good camping ground.

Day 11: Khirganga-Pulga, 9 km

Day 12: Pulga-Manikaran, 12 kms
Pluga is located in a very narrow valley with steep hills. The area is totally forested.

Day 13: Travel back to KULLU

Day 14: Travel back to CHANDIGARH. 6- 7 hrs journey.

Day 15: Travel back to DELHI.
